Three Ponds Shiraz 2021
- Hunter Valley -
Medium-bodied Hunter Shiraz. Ideal drinking 2023-2046.
Vineyard Holman Estate, Pokolbin
Winemaker Michael McManus
A wine that has perhaps benefited from the cooler vintage. It’s very red fruited with plenty of plum and cherry, complemented by sweet oak spices, incense and a hint of white pepper. Not a lot of concentration, but palate is velvety, with soft, very fine tannins and juicy acidity before caramelised smoked bacon and mocha arise on the finish.

Shiraz is the most famous and best red varietal in the Hunter Valley. Quite distinct from shiraz in other parts of Australia, Hunter Shiraz is medium to full bodied, spicy, rich and fruity. Typical flavour profiles of Hunter Shiraz include dark berries, saddle leather, tobacco, cloves and chocolate. Often having better natural acidity and spice than shiraz from other parts of Australia, Hunter Shiraz rewards careful cellaring and food pairing.
